The Connecticut Department of Transportation, through Federal Highway Administration, is funding a pilot program, to be administered by the 14 Regional Planning Organizations (RPO). Under this program, each RPO will provide technical assistance to at least one (1) eligible school(s) (Grades Kindergarten to Eighth) in their respective region for development of SRTS Master Plan(s).
Participating schools will receive assistance with education and encouragement activities developed in their Master Plans. Examples of assistance include a free loan of “Safety Town for Children”, a miniature transportation network (streets, traffic signal, cars, signs, etc.) to support pedestrian and bicycle education efforts; and SRTS bicycle and pedestrian safety education and encouragement materials, which include activity books, curricula, videos and encouragement items.
